This was done since it has been observed that the JVC 3D projectors, with their DILA (LCoS) micro-display panels produce far less crosstalk after they heat up to full operating temperature. To evaluate the level of crosstalk present when using my DLA-RS40 along with my JVC 3D active shutter glasses I first allowed the projector to run for approximately 60 minutes in high lamp mode. Any visible crosstalk will result in a dim (very dark grey) vertical bar being visible through the left lens of the 3D active shutter glasses while if there were no crosstalk the image on the screen would appear fully black when viewed through the left lens of the 3D active shutter glasses. This generally represents the most demanding situation for 3D and with most 3D projection systems will be the most likely to produce visible 3D crosstalk/ghosting. Of the 3D test patterns I have created the one most appropriate for testing of 3D crosstalk is where the left image is solid black while the right image has a 100% white vertical bar on a black background (see photos below). Note that the RS40 has just very recently been replaced in JVC product line by the new DLA-RS45 which has been reported by a few new owners to have similar 3D performance to the RS40 (in one case when both were viewed side-by-side). My home theater projector is a one year old JVC model DLA-RS40. This disc provides full resolution 1080p/24 test patterns and is encoded using the Blu-ray Disc standard 3D “frame packing” format. In order to test for 3D crosstalk I have created a Blu-ray 3D test disc that includes a number of 3D related test patterns. In Part 1 of my blog (December 14, 2011) I discussed the potential sources for 3D Crosstalk/Ghosting with 3D projection systems, including both active and passive 3D projection technologies. 3D Crosstalk/Ghosting Results for my JVC DLA-RS40 Projector For the continuing discussion from my most recent blog on 3D Crosstalk, I have now completed measurements of the 3D crosstalk level from my JVC DLA-RS40 projector and for the further discussion on screens for 3D projection I have taken a quick look at sample “silver screen” materials from both Stewart and Da-lite that are being marketed for use with passive 3D projection systems, that use polarization for their 3D separation, as well as suitable to 2D projection. This blog is a continuation of my previous blog ( HERE) of Decemon “3D Crosstalk/Ghosting – Part 1” and also is a follow-up to my earlier blogs discussing screens for 3D projection (i.e., blogs from August 19 th, August 31 st, and December 1 st. dollars using the applicable exchange rate without prior notice to you.įor additional information related to Wires and foreign currency wires, please see the Online Access Agreement or applicable service documentation. Retinitis pigmentosa is also a feature of several other genetic syndromes, including Bardet-Biedl syndrome Refsum disease and neuropathy, ataxia, and retinitis pigmentosa (NARP). The most common form of syndromic retinitis pigmentosa is Usher syndrome, which is characterized by the combination of vision loss and hearing loss beginning early in life. These forms of the disease are described as syndromic. Less commonly, retinitis pigmentosa occurs as part of syndromes that affect other organs and tissues in the body. Researchers have identified several major types of nonsyndromic retinitis pigmentosa, which are usually distinguished by their pattern of inheritance: autosomal dominant, autosomal recessive, or X-linked. When the disorder occurs by itself, it is described as nonsyndromic. The signs and symptoms of retinitis pigmentosa are most often limited to vision loss. In adulthood, many people with retinitis pigmentosa become legally blind. The disease progresses over years or decades to affect central vision, which is needed for detailed tasks such as reading, driving, and recognizing faces. Over time, these blind spots merge to produce tunnel vision. Later, the disease causes blind spots to develop in the side (peripheral) vision. Problems with night vision can make it difficult to navigate in low light. The first sign of retinitis pigmentosa is usually a loss of night vision, which becomes apparent in childhood. In people with retinitis pigmentosa, vision loss occurs as the light-sensing cells of the retina gradually deteriorate. These disorders affect the retina, which is the layer of light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye. Retinitis pigmentosa is a group of related eye disorders that cause progressive vision loss. However, I wanted to use this time to go over some of the common pests that you may eventually get on your houseplants, and simple ways to prevent infestation from the onset. As a prolific gardener in an indoor, closed environment, I didn't have any desire to toss out plants or spray toxic insecticides indoors, so I opted for integrated pest management and natural techniques, which I'll go over a little bit here and more in depth in a subsequent post. I noticed scale, including mealybugs whiteflies thrips and even the fungus gnat, (the latter which is more annoying than pest-like). I had converted my closet into a vegetable garden as an experiment and within weeks, the pest numbers exploded. Not because I'm out of tune with plant and bug (most friends know that I've been raising insects since I was 9 years old and ended up studying entomology in college), but largely because my plants didn't have any noticeable pests.Īll of that changed in 2016 when I began growing food in my home. Did they assume that benign insects were just generally attracted to flower and foliage-or were they insinuating that I had an outbreak of insect pests? If the latter, I must admit that for the better part of six years I was blissfully unaware of any pesky insects in my home. "What on earth do they mean?" I couldn't quite pinpoint the root of their question. As people became more aware of the plants that I was growing in my home, I noticed I would often get the question, " How do you deal with all the insects?" Next, of course, we had to refine the history of the Station, its rise and fall, what all the different structures and districts are, why it ended up this way, and everything else that creates the backstory of the actual game experience. The timeline is important to determine what factions may or may not be present, what events have or have not happened, etc. While an important part of the tales that come from strategy games like Endless Space and Endless Legend evolve from emergent stories, games with stronger RPG elements like Endless Dungeon necessarily rely a lot more on the content authored by the devs.Īccordingly, the team spent a lot of time at the beginning of the project working out the big picture story of the Station and where (and when) it fit in the canon of the Endless Universe timeline. Video games of any genre basically have two types of narrative: the authored narrative created by the devs that you discover as you play (canon), and the emergent narrative created by the player as they do their own unique playthrough of the game and build their individual story (headcanon). Great stories are a critical element of any media experience, and we work hard to bring narrative to our games that is as interesting as the graphics and the gameplay. This is explained by the fact that a couple of price paths, “the happy few”, are realizing most of the gains. After 10 years we notice a difference between the average level (red dot) and the median level (red cross). Figure 1 shows the evolution of several GBM price paths with a mean of 8% and a volatility of 25% over a period of 10 years. The following example highlights the impact of time on long-term results. Multiplicative dynamics infer that the future change in the level of wealth is dependent on the current level of wealth. The choice of this strategy equally leads to the portfolio with the highest geometric mean.Īs investment and risk always involve a time dimension, the concept of time plays a crucial role in risk-taking. This is equivalent to the choice of strategy that has a greater probability of leading to as much or more wealth than any other different strategy. (In the case of a large number of independent trials, he advised using the simple arithmetic mean.) This approach starts from a probabilistic Markovian framework to determine the growth optimal portfolio. Latane advised using the Kelly approach for investment situations that concern a significant portion of wealth which have a cumulative effect. Their findings are consistent with those of in 1738 in an influential paper called “Exposition of a New Theory on the Measurement of Risk” in which he advises maximizing the expected logarithmic utility of wealth. In between these two propositions lies the proportional solution presented by, who recommend optimizing the geometric mean of outcomes. One can also wager a small proportion of starting capital, which already seems more reasonable than the first suggestion. However, it seems a bit like Russian roulette if you played the game many times. When presented with favorable opportunities over time, the most extreme is to risk your entire wealth. (For a discussion of the Kelly criterion see for instance ).) Thorp shows that under certain circumstances, the optimal Kelly portfolio is approximately one of the Markowitz efficient portfolios but that this approximation can break down badly in practice. The growth optimal portfolio (GOP) considers investor behavior under multi-period dynamics with typically an infinite investment horizon. While the mean–variance theory initially was a one-period static theory, Markowitz recognized the relevance of the geometric mean return from the Kelly criterion. In the landscape of risk and return there are two main paradigms within portfolio theory: Markowitz’s parametric mean–variance framework and the Kelly criterion (also labeled the capital growth criterion or the growth optimal portfolio (GOP) Theory), which found its origin in information entropy. The second objective is to use this framework and show the relationship between leverage, optimizing for long-term growth and drawdown risk. The first objective is to develop a framework that can generate insights into possible drawdown characteristics for a risk-taker’s portfolio. In this article, drawdown risk is studied from a portfolio perspective. We show that in the case of heavier tailed outcomes, extra care is needed, and optimal might not be so optimal in the end. Based on Monte Carlo simulation, we analyze the medium-term behavior of different cumulative return paths and study the impact of different return outcome distributions. We demonstrate, through a series of experiments, the importance of path dependent risks in the case of outcomes subject to various return distributions. Given a certain set of profitable trading characteristics, a risk-taker who maximizes expected growth can still be faced with significant drawdowns to the point where a strategy becomes unsustainable. In this paper, we provide a flexible framework for assessing path dependent risk for a trading or investment operation. Path-dependent risk measures, such as drawdown risk, provide a means to assess the risk of significant portfolio retracements. While growth is definitely an important consideration, the focus on growth alone can lead to significant drawdowns, leading to psychological discomfort for a risk-taker. The Kelly criterion determines optimal bet sizes that maximize long-term growth. Each of these classifications can have their types. UML Sequence Diagrams Sequence diagram is an interaction diagram that shows the objects participating in a particular interaction and the messages they exchange arranged in a time sequence. UML diagram types can be distinguished as structural or behavioral. EdrawMax is ideal for software designers and software developers who need to draw UML Sequence Diagrams. There are different types of UML diagrams that you can work on the basis of your requirements. On the contrary, it is the unified approach to provide different kinds of visual representations.
